COVID-19 Health Report Form

All Rice Students who live on or are daily coming to campus, Faculty and Staff should assess themselves DAILY for symptoms, check your temperature and report any symptoms or exposure to COVID-19 to the CMT by completing the Health Report Form immediately. For the safety of yourself and others, do not wait to report.

The most important safety actions to take today and everyday are:

  1. Daily check for symptoms and monitor your temperature
  2. Notify change in health or possible exposure by completing the Health Report Form.
  3. Wear your face covering when around others
  4. Stay 6 ft away from others
  5. Clean surfaces around you
  6. WASH YOUR HANDS and avoid touching your face

Fondren Library

The Fondren Library continues to offer access to all digital content. The Fondren Library is open to Rice University ID holders for study and research.  Materials located in the Woodson Research Center will be available using an appointment based system. Please see the library’s website for the schedule and more detailed information about library services at library.rice.edu.

Trash

Team members should place their trash bags outside the lab and office (with the top tied) for trash pickup on campus. Replacement bags will be supplied.

Lab Gloves

Lab gloves should be removed when leaving the laboratory. It is not recommended to wear gloves in elevators and public areas unless you are transporting materials that require personal protection. In those cases, use the one-hand glove rule when walking containers between areas. Always open doors with a non-gloved hand. Gloves should not be re-used.

Lone Worker Safety

Working alone is not recommended in laboratories due to safety risks in the case of an accident or medical emergency. However, if a PI allows for a lone worker, the PI must establish lone worker safety practices with the lab members. Below are suggestions to aid in lone worker safety:

  • Prohibit certain classes of hazardous activities from being practiced by lone workers.
  • Scheduled regular check-ins by phone call, text, or email.
  • Set up a “Zoom buddy” (friend, lab mate, or another lone worker) that could see or hear you in case of an emergency.
  • Use an emergency alert device between 2 individuals present in adjacent spaces in close proximity.
  • Ensure that all participants are aware of the lab location and RUPD phone number (713-348-6000) in case of an emergency.
